You know those chilled copper mugs that the coolest people in the bar are currently drinking out of? Yeah, that copper mug is the telltale sign of a Moscow Mule– the traditional way a Moscow Mule is served.
If you’ve never heard of a Moscow Mule, you’re missing out– it’s the new trendy cocktail in today’s drinking scene. However, it’s certainly been around the block– rumor has it that in 1941 a vodka distributor by the name of John G. Martin and ginger beer brewer and restaurateur by the name of Jack Morgan decided to develop a new drink to promote their stagnating products. After a few drinks down the hatchet and a few hours of brainstorming, the Moscow Mule was born, and the rest is history. The Moscow Mule has been in and out of popularity ever since.
So anyway, here’s the recipe–
The ultimate moscow mule recipe
- Start with a chilled Copper Moscow Mule Mug
- Add 2-3 ice cubes
- Add 3 parts vodka (1.5oz)
- Add 1 part lime juice (0.5oz)
- Top it off with your favorite ginger beer, although the true recipe calls for Cock & Bull Ginger Beer
- Garnished with a slice or wedge of lime
Delicious, easy to make and refreshing to drink! Once you completely master making a proper Moscow Mule, you can experiment with alternative takes on this classic such as the Kentucky Mule or Moscow Mule Jello Shots.
